Dead Men Don’t Rise from the Grave

Dead Men Don’t Rise from the Grave

Each year, Christians around the world observe Holy Saturday. The day that falls between Christ’s two supreme acts of redemption–His death on Friday and His resurrection on Sunday–Holy Saturday is literally an “in-between” day. It is a day where Jesus lay lifeless and motionless in a tomb. Literally nothing happened on this day, yet we call it “holy” and celebrate it each year.

How odd that God’s plan of redemption included an “in-between” day?

In truth, as an “in-between” day, Holy Saturday may be the most relevant date on the Christian calendar each year. Because we too occupy the in-between. As long as the Lord tarries, we all will live our entire lives in between Christ’s resurrection and His return. And just like the tomb, life here in the in-between can get pretty dark.

This song is a song of hope, a song that reminds us here in the in-between that Jesus did and does and will again bring life and light to all that looks so hopeless. It may only be Saturday now. But to steal a line from the S.M. Lockridge, Sunday is coming.

Lyrics

Dead men don’t rise from the grave
Dean men don’t rise from the grave
The best of our logic and reason do say
that dead men don’t rise from the grave
Oh, but Jesus did

Nothing could save
one as hopeless as me
Nothing could save
one as hopeless as me
Buried by sin and unable to breathe
Nothing could save
one as hopeless as me
No, but Jesus did

No one can make sense
of all of this pain
A world torn by war
and wearied by hate
Darkness deepens every day
No one can make sense
of all of this pain
No, but Jesus will

I believe, oh, Jesus will

I believe, I believe, I believe Jesus did
I believe that He does and He will again
Bring life from what was dead

I believe, I believe, I believe Jesus did
I believe that He does and He will again
Bring life from what was dead

A dead man rose up from the grave
Said the worst of the world
won’t have the last say
No one can make sense
of all of this pain
Well, except a dead man
who rose up from the grave
Oh, and Jesus did

No one can make sense
of all of this pain
Well, except a dead man
who rose up from the grave

A dead man rose up from the grave
