The Rhythm of Resurrection
Each spring, I am lucky enough to get to travel to lots of different churches with Easter: Stories & Songs and celebrate with them the resurrection of Jesus. This song articulates very literally my prayer for each concert.
My prayer is that we–both band and congregation–would not only celebrate the resurrection but that we would be changed again by it. Like Jacob walking away from his encounter with God with a new gait, my prayer is that the concert would provide an encounter with the Good News of Jesus that would cause us all to walk away changed, to walk out of the church and into the rest of our lives tapping our toes not to the beat of any particular song but to the beat of the rhythm of the resurrection, that by the very way we move about the world around us we would be the presence of the hope of resurrection within a world that is dying for such hope. That is my prayer.
(NOTE: We are currently traveling this week. On Wednesday afternoon, we were setting up in the sanctuary of Trinity Church in Omaha, NE. I snuck out and set up a single microphone in a room near the sanctuary; I grabbed my guitar and asked Haley, Chloe, and Makayla to sing. We did two quick takes and, as always, they made my music sound so much better than it is.)
Lyrics
He took one breath
and He danced on death
Oh, and with each step, He set
the rhythm of resurrection
He took one breath
and He danced on death
Oh, and with each step, He set
the rhythm of resurrection
And our every song
from that point on
has moved along to
the rhythm of resurrection
Lay down your life
with Christ you will rise
to dance in time with
the rhythm of resurrection
